Retro -style mass destruction ACT Terror of Hemasaurus -Leave the monster in you! [Developer interview]

This project is an interview with the developer of the new indie game that you are interested in. This time, we will provide a mini-interlocked show to developers Terror of Thesaurus , a retro-style mass destruction action released on October 18, developed by LOREN REMAKE and released on October 18.

This is an action game that destroys humanity living in a retro town as a huge monster. You can destroy the building by manipulating a charming monster drawn in dot paintings, climbs the skyscrapers, beats down helicopters and eats humans. It is also available in local multiplayer with up to four players, and can work with friends and family for destructive activities. At the time of writing the article, it is not compatible with Japanese.

Terror of Thesaurus is being distributed for 1,320 yen.

— First, please introduce yourself. What is your favorite game?

Loren Remake (Loren) Loren Remake. I have been a game developer alone for almost 10 years. In 2017, SUPER BLOOD HOCKEY was released and recently launched this work for PCs. The console version of this work is scheduled to be released in early December!

It’s really difficult to choose one of your favorite games, but if you dare to say, it’s Final Fantasy 7. When I was a kid, I played with my brother, but at that time it was a magnificent scale that I had never experienced before. Even though it was a single game, I could enjoy it together, and when I cleared it, I felt like I did something amazing!

――Why did this work develop?

LOREN This work originally started with two different ideas and eventually became one game. The first idea was to resurrect the game monsters rampage in the city by adding physical-based gameplay. This genre is an interesting treasure trove of gameplay, but there were few games trying to do creative things in this genre.

We humans can gain joy and relaxation by breaking things. It gives us the power and independence that many of us cannot gain in the real world. This work functions as a space that indicates our inner monsters safely and stimulates their desires, as well as the world.

The second important factor came from thinking about my own death and the long-term survival of humanity. The aliens of the future may find the wreckage of our civilization and play the game we created. I wanted to make a video game that could play such a future alien play.

In this work, I tried to make a game to convey the message to aliens the message Why did humans respond to climate change immediately? I wanted to tell the aliens of the future that trying to understand the destruction of mankind was frustrating and hopeless.

―― Please tell me the characteristics of this work.

I wanted to give the highest satisfaction to the action of LOREN destruction, so I developed a physical-based destruction model and enabled creative game play. The building is not one, but each has a unique destruction.

For example, if you make a hole in the side of the building, the building will fall in that direction, collide with a nearby building, causing a collapse like a domino. It is a game character that makes it highly evaluated by planning firmly and destroying creative.

In addition, there are stages that have unique purposes, such as rescue cute cats and dogs from burning buildings, and gives game play variations. If you add a friend, you will be able to express the monster in you in a more unique way.

――What kind of person do you want this work to play?

Loren Everyone! It may not fit everyone’s taste, but I think that is the advantage of this work. By being a solo developer, you can make potentially risky creative decisions that you can not do with recent large-scale budget games. Such decisions may eliminate some people, but for those who are tired of large games, they may be a healing wind.

— Is there any work influenced by this work?

LOREN This work is inspired by the game I played as a child, especially Rampage: World Tour. I was also influenced by the movie Atomic monsters and Godzilla series. I was a big fan of monster movies and monster games since I was a child. The transformation scene of Basra of Godzilla vs. Mithra is the oldest memory of the monster movie experience as a child. I still think the transformation scene of Basra is very cool, and I want to make something similar someday.

――Do you plan to support this work? Is volunteer translation possible?

LOREN Japanese translation work is currently ongoing! It will be implemented in the console version scheduled to be released in early December, and it may be able to respond faster in the PC version of Steam, GOG, and Epic Games store. Hopefully, I’m going to use pixel art fonts in the game!

――What had an impact on the development of the new Coronavirus?

The pandemic of LOREN’s new Corona occurred in the middle of the development of this work, and it certainly had an effect. The speed has dropped considerably. The dissatisfaction and frustration expressed in this work have also been amplified.

In the story, there are some parts that were directly inspired by human reactions to pandemic. In particular, the existence of monsters wanted to inherit the tradition of expressing concerns about the problems of humanity, so in a sense, they had a creative impact on this work.

――Is it okay to distribute or monetize this work?

LOREN, of course! I am really grateful to those who share with viewers by creating and distributing this video. One of the most difficult things as an indie developer is to let them notice the existence of their games. I’m really grateful for the presence of people who make videos. I think that the relationship between game developers and content creators should be as symbiotic as possible, so we recommend that you monetize videos.

-Finally, please give a message to Japanese readers.

LOREN I am purely interested what Japanese people think of this work! I would like to hear your thoughts because of the unique relationship between the monster genre and every1. I would be glad if everyone could enjoy this work. Furthermore, I would like to thank all the people who challenged this little indie game I made.

–thank you very much.
