UEFA: New players in the European Cup allowed

STUDY: Was the Champions League always superior to the UEFA Cup ?
Football associations can read in the remaining games of the European Cup competitions up to two additional actors from Russian or Ukrainian clubs. This decided the Executive Committee of the European Football Union.

Thus, the association responded to a decision of the World Association FIFA, which had opened an extraordinary transfer window for foreign players and coaches in Russian and Ukrainian clubs two weeks ago.

Thereafter, the contracts are automatically exposed to clubs in Ukraine, which in clubs in Russia can be exposed to the players on one side. Both are valid until the end of the season on June 30th. The suspension of a contract means “that players and coaches apply as contractless until June 30, 2022 and therefore freeze it without any consequences to sign a contract with another club,” said the FIFA. At the same time it had been determined that this change period is valid up to date from April 7 and a club may undertake a maximum of two players falling under this derogation.

UEFA now decided that a club may use these players in the Champions League, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League, if they are registered until 1 April. The same applies analogously to the Champions League of women, where the additional players must be reported until 7 April.

The FIFA had reacted with the extraordinary transfer period to the situation of foreign players after the invasion of Russia in Ukraine. World Association and UEFA had previously excluded all Russian teams from international competitions. In Ukraine, football operation is resting since the beginning of the war.
